Three of the four candidates to represent Federal Way in the Legislature have raised about or more than $100,000, and one of the city's incumbents is finding herself a popular target for outside opposition efforts.

Three of the four candidates to represent Federal Way in the Legislature have raised about or more than $100,000, and one of the city’s incumbents is finding herself a popular target for outside opposition efforts.

According to financial records filed Aug. 15, the race for Position 1 in District 30 will be the most hotly contested raced in the city if money is any indication. Incumbent Republican Linda Kochmar has raised $99,536, while the challenger, Democrat Mike Pellicciotti, has raised the most of all four candidates with $117,441.

Kochmar also had $26,314 in outside opposition spending leveled against her. That’s the fourth-largest amount of independent opposition money spent against a candidate out of all 98 candidates running for the House of Representatives.

In Pos. 2, incumbent Republican Teri Hickel has raised $99,451 through Aug. 15, about 56 percent more than her Democratic challenger, Kristine Reeves, who’s raised $56,017. Reeves, who drew 68 more votes than Hickel in the non-competitive primary this month, has seen her efforts bolstered by outside groups, while $28,857 has been spent on her behalf in independent support.

The finance breakdown, per the Public Disclosure Commission as of Aug. 15, is as follows:

• Kochmar (Pos. 1): $99,536 raised and $50,567 spent; $13,406 in independent support reported and $26,314 in independent opposition reported.

• Pellicciott (Pos. 1): $117,441 raised and $84,866 spent; $2,045 in independent support reported and $0 in independent opposition reported.

• Hickel (Pos. 2): $99,452 raised and $32,715 spent; $4,261 in independent support reported and $10,657 in independent opposition reported.

• Reeves (Pos. 2): $56,017 raised and $45,758 spent; $28,857 in independent support reported and $0 in independent support reported.
