District 30 candidates raise money ahead of Aug. primary

As the old saying goes, "Money is the mother's milk of politics." With the upcoming Aug. 7 primary election, here's a look at what Federal Way area candidates have spent and raised.

As the old saying goes, “Money is the mother’s milk of politics.”

With the upcoming Aug. 7 primary election, here’s a look at what Federal Way area candidates have spent and raised, according to the latest information on the state’s Public Disclosure Commission website at www.pdc.wa.gov.

The top two finishers at each position in the primary election will face off in the November general election.

District 30 state rep., position 1

This seat is being vacated by State Rep. Mark Miloscia, a Democrat who is running for state auditor.

• Roger Flygare (Democrat): $36,990 raised and $22,809 spent. Top donors include SEIU Healthcare (Service Employees International Union), IAFF Local 2024 (firefighters union), and the Washington State Troopers Political Action Committee.

• Tony Moore (Republican): $20,530 raised and $15,798 spent. Top donors include the League of Education Voters and Premera Blue Cross at $900 each.

• Thom Macfarlane (Democrat): $15,455 raised and $6,151 spent. Top donors are Young A. Yun ($800) and Joseph Worm ($700).

• Linda Kochmar (Republican): $12,205 raised and $10,870 spent. Top donors include the Washington Trucking Association and Rajiv Nagaich of AgingOptions.

• Jerry Galland (Republican): $3,950 raised and $2,732 spent. Top donors are Holly Han and Jonathan Wright of The Tahoma Clinic ($250 each).

District 30 state rep., position 2

This seat is held by Katrina Asay, a former mayor of Milton who was elected to the state House in 2010.

• Katrina Asay (Republican): $17,227 raised and $6,350 spent. Top donors include Anheuser Busch, Delta Dental Washington, Phillip Morris USA, Washington State Dental PAC, Washington Indian Gaming Association and Washington Restaurant Association PAC — all donating $800 each.

• Rick Hoffman (Democrat): $23,851 raised and $4,550 spent. Top donors include Raymond Goforth of Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace ($500), Washington State Committee on Political Education ($450) and the 30th Legislative District Democratic Organization ($300).

• Roger Freeman (Democrat): $5,107 raised and $772 spent. Two donors are listed, the House Democratic Campaign Committee ($2,500) and the Truman Fund ($1,800).

UPCOMING DEBATES

The Federal Way Mirror is hosting debates for candidates in both the primary and general elections. Debates will take place at the Federal Way High School little theatre, located at South 308th Street and Pacific Highway South.

The debate schedule for the Aug. 7 primary election:

• Primary election, District 30 state representative: Position 1 candidates take the stage 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10. Position 2 candidates take the stage 6:30 to 8 p.m.

• Congressional debate, District 9: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21.

Debate schedule for the Nov. 6 general election (location to be announced):

• General election, District 30, position 1: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. Position 2: 6:30 to 8 p.m.

• Congressional debate, District 9: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10.
