Ten students from the Western Region of the U.S. received the award out of the 1,100 who applied for it. This scholarship, referred to as “Ten4U,” is offered to 80 high school juniors in the 31 states where a Nordstrom full-line or Rack store is operated.

Stephanie Stanek is Decatur High School’s ASB treasurer, DECA president, Honor Society vice president, and also an active member of her community.

Every student who receives this award finds out by being surprised at school. Ellen Greene, the director of the Nordstrom Scholarship Program, delivered the scholarship with a little help. Store managers, HR directors, Stephanie’s family and other Nordstrom employees all crammed into Stephanie’s classroom to award her the scholarship.

Along with a giant check, they brought along cupcakes for the whole class to enjoy while celebrating her achievement. Stephanie hopes to attend Stanford University, and is ecstatic upon receiving the $2,500 a year scholarship.
