Mayor Jim Ferrell is taking action to help keep the Federal Way community warm due to the extended cold temperatures.

The City of Federal Way has partnered with FUSION to activate a severe weather shelter overnight through Thursday, Nov. 30, and a day warming location at the Federal Way Community Center until the weather improves.

FUSION’s shelter will temporarily accommodate homeless individuals based on availability at 1505 S. 328th Street. The FUSION shelter will be open on Thursday, Nov. 30, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. No pets are allowed inside the FUSION shelter, but snacks and water will be provided.

Ferrell also announced that the Federal Way Community Center (FWCC), located at 876 S. 333rd Street, will immediately serve as a warming shelter for residents during the day. The FWCC warming shelter is available until the weather improves.

“We are committed to our residents’ safety,” said Ferrell about protecting unhoused individuals from being outside during cold weather. “We are proud to partner with FUSION Transitional Housing in activating the emergency cold shelter, and our hardworking staff at the Federal Way Community Center is ready to assist anyone who needs a warming shelter.”

While the warming shelter is free, swimming pools, workout equipment, and other amenities at the FWCC require a separate purchase. Pets are not allowed at the FWCC.
