Census forms due April 1; 46 percent of Federal Way residents participate

Census forms for 2010 are due April 1. As of that date, 46 percent of Federal Way residents had returned the form, spokeswoman Linda Farmer said. In King County, 50 percent of households have returned the form, she said. According to the 2010 Census Web site, 52 percent of Washington residents have returned their forms. The national return rate is at 54 percent, according to the Web site.

Households that have not returned the form ought to expect a census worker to arrive to their home to help them complete the 10 question survey.

The information provided on the census helps decide how much federal money is allocated to each community over the next 10 years. Annually, $400 billion is distributed dependent on census information. The money is used to fund things such as hospitals, job training centers, schools, senior centers, public works projects and infrastructure and emergency services.

Federal Way could receive up to $1,400 for each household that completes and returns a census form this year, according to a city press release.
