The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Drunk driver passes out at wheel: At 1:34 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the 32000 block of 23rd Ave. S., a driver was arrested for a DUI after he passed out behind the wheel of a running car at the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and South 320th Street. Citizens, officers and firefighters pounded on the car for several minutes to wake the driver, who was eventually removed. Police confiscated several baggies of suspected narcotics later in a search.

Woman suspicious of children’s father: At 2:49 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the 1900 block of SW Campus Drive, a woman called police to report her suspicion that her children’s father was abusing them because they were scared to go to his house in Tacoma, and that she wasn’t going to let them go. The woman said there were no marks or evidence of abuse, but that Child Protective Services has an active investigation open on both herself and the children’s father. Police determined there was no crime and closed the case.

Burglar scared off at sight of woman: At 4:22 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the 28700 block of 18th Ave. S., police responded to a house burglary. A female occupant said a male wearing a hoodie and sweats entered through the window that he damaged. As he opened a bedroom door, she saw him and he fled out the window. Police conducted a K9 track but were unsuccessful.

Burglar steals handguns: At 2:59 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the 35800 block of 16th Ave. S., an unknown suspect broke into a victim’s apartment and stole three unsecured handguns and other items.

Rape of local child alleged: At 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the 2100 block of SW 318th Place, an unknown person called Seattle police to report a rape of a Federal Way child. Through investigation, police determined the possible crime occurred in Bellevue. The reporting party was given contact information to report the incident to Bellevue police.

Police assist in sex trafficking case: At 2:05 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the 2700 block of SW 341st St., the mother of a 14-year-old girl contacted police because she believes her daughter is being sex trafficked. She said someone in Shoreline contacted her daughter through social media seeking sex in exchange for money. Federal Way police assisted the King County Sheriff’s Office in their investigation.

Man attempts overdose: At 4:06 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the 1700 block of S. 334th Lane, a man was involuntarily committed after taking a “handful” of over-the-counter migraine relief medicine. He and his wife had gone out drinking that night. After, he started talking about how bad he felt about a recent affair he had before he took the pills.

Woman arrested on warrant: At 11:27 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the 1500 block of S. 336th St., police arrested a woman on a $2,000 warrant after observing her with two others who matched the description of squatters that were seen staying in a vacant property in the 2100 block of S. 336th St. The woman was transported to SCORE jail.

Cash, merchandise worth $8,600 stolen from smoke shop: At 12:37 p.m. on Feb. 14 at 2020 S. 320th St., the owner of Rai Smoke Shop reported his business had been burglarized overnight. The suspect broke into the shop through the wall of a vacant adjacent business. In addition to stolen cash, the business lost 90 cartons of cigarettes and glass pipes. The total loss is estimated to be worth $8,600.

Tavern fight leads to one arrest: At 9:55 p.m. on Feb. 14 at 27201 Pacific Highway S., police arrested a man on a $5,000 Kitsap County warrant after they received a call stating there was a man making threats with a weapon at Castaway Tavern. The man, reportedly armed with a gun, was allegedly fighting with several subjects in the parking lot. Police found the man when they arrived but not his gun. The man had some facial injuries, was uncooperative and appeared to be very intoxicated. He was treated for his injuries at St. Francis Hospital before being taken to SCORE jail.

Police apprehend violent teen: At 2:02 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the 31200 block of 20th Ave. S., a 16-year-old autistic boy was involuntarily committed for trying to harm his mother and making threats to kill her. His mother called police and advised them her son was having an “episode” and that he had pushed her. She said she feared it would continue without interference or medical assistance. Her son did not respond to officers’ questions or volunteer to go to the hospital.

Men violently rob nearly-blind man: At 8:37 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the 30800 block of 14th Ave. S., a man was walking home from U.S. Bank when he suspected someone was following him. Having suffered vision loss with no sight in his right eye and only 10 percent function in the other eye, he couldn’t see who it was but believed they were very close to him. The victim was attacked by what he believes to be three males who struck him several times in the head and robbed him of his wallet.

Man arrested on warrant: At 4:38 p.m. on Feb. 11 in the 32000 block of Pacific Highway S., a man was arrested on a $5,000 Des Moines warrant after a citizen reported him loitering and attempting to sell drugs. Police were unable to find any drugs.

Mother reports child bully to police: At 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 in the 4400 block of SW 320th St., a mother called police to report that two weeks ago an 8- or 9-year-old boy had pushed her 7-year-old daughter into the girls’ restroom and shut the door. She was able to push her way out but wanted to report it in a police report because the school “isn’t doing anything about” the problem with the bully.
