The Federal Way & Auburn Boys and Girls Club and EX3 Ron Sandwith Teen Center’s 20th annual “Breakfast for Kids” fundraiser was held April 10 at Emerald Downs in Auburn. The event raised about $60,000 for club programs.

Recently retired Seattle Sounders goalkeeper and American soccer icon Kasey Keller was the featured guest speaker for the event.

During his speech, Keller explained that the source of his work ethic was instilled during his childhood growing up on an egg farm in Olympia, Wash. His successful soccer career took him to England, Spain and Germany before bringing him back to Seattle for his last three seasons and his retirement at the end of last season. Keller was a former U.S. national team goalie and is now working as studio analyst for the ESPN Network.

“It was a privilege to have Kasey come and speak to us this morning and share about his inspiring life and the benefits of a strong work ethic,” said honorary Breakfast for Kids Chairman, Pete von Reichbauer, a King County Councilman.

The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. 100 percent of contributions from this event will go directly to the operating budget, so that the Boys and Girls Clubs will be to continue to provide a positive place for kids and teens.
