Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) has partnered up with Pawsitive Alliance and other animal shelters throughout the state for the first-ever statewide Animal Shelter Open House.

Here in King County, the open house will be held noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Pet Adoption Center, 21615 64th Ave. S., Kent.

“This Open House is a great way for people to see how the Pet Adoption Center is working to get adoptable animals into new homes. Potential pet adopters are encouraged to come see the animals we have, and perhaps take one home with them,” said Dr. Gene Mueller, manager of RASKC. “We’re happy to join with Pawsitive Alliance and other animal shelters throughout the state for this exciting event.”

RASKC and Pawsitive Alliance, a volunteer network based out of Kenmore, is joined by the Everett Animal Shelter/ARF, Homeward Pet Adoption Center, Humane Society of Central Washingotn, Northwest Organization for Animal Help, Progressive Animal Welfare Society, and Grant County Animal Outreach in trying to spread the message about the work of their organizations, and the positive impact that pet adoption can have on people and families.

October is a prime month to adopt a pet, according to RASKC. No-fee cat adoptions are available from now until the end of the month, and hopes to adopt out 200 cats and kittens before the end of the month. All animals from RASKC are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and come with a starter bag of food. Available pets are listed online at www.kingcounty.gov/pets under the “Adopt a Pet” tab.

Pawsitive Alliance’s mission is to end the euthanizing of adoptable animals by increasing adoptions, and supporting spay and neuter programs, and increasing pet retention.
