Amazon Fresh grocery store in Federal Way to open Aug. 11

First person in line on opening day receives a $100 Amazon gift card.

The Amazon Fresh store in Federal Way is opening Thursday, Aug. 11, the company confirmed.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 6:45 a.m.

The first customer in line at the store will receive a $100 Amazon gift card, an Amazon spokesperson said. There will also be gift cards of varying amounts and free tote bags for the first 250 customers in line.

Amazon Fresh will be giving out free samples of Allegro organic and decaf coffee. Opening day will also have a DJ, a prize wheel with prizes including gift cards and Amazon Fresh swag, and a scavenger hunt giveaway activity for kids.

The full-service grocery store offers “Just Walk Out” technology, allowing customers to skip the checkout line by using sensors to track each item placed into — or removed from — a customer’s virtual cart. There will also be traditional checkouts.

The store is located at 1701 S. Commons.
