100-plus volunteers serve, beautify Federal Way

More than 100 volunteers served Federal Way on Saturday.

We Love Our City, a local nonprofit, and the ministry of Family Life Community Church participated in a nationwide Serve Day on July 10.

Over 100 volunteers divided into teams to better the city. Some teams picked up litter around town, resulting in 30-plus bags. Other teams mowed and tended to the Hylebos Blueberry Farm. Kids events were also hosted at Town Square Park (with free ice cream) and The Lodge Apartments.

In addition to service, handwritten cards, treats and drinks delivered to the Federal Way Police Department, South King Fire and Rescue, and Avalon Care Center.

Volunteers also hosted a kid’s booth at the Federal Way Farmers Market.

Another large team went to the Light of Christ Community Garden where they weeded, picked up trash at the neighboring Park & Ride transit lot and assisted with the annual garage sale. Elsewhere in Federal Way, windows were washed at FUSION Decor Boutique.

Books for the community libraries, socks for the Federal Way Day Center, and food for the Federal Way Senior Center Food bank were collected and will be distributed this week.

After the hours of service on Saturday, teams met at the farmers market for food, cold drinks and shopping local products.

In addition, We Love Our City is partnering with Bloodworks Northwest for a blood drive July 9-24. To register and find a location to donate, call 1-800-398-7888 and provide the nonprofit’s code (#0235).
