1 man shot near Fred Meyer gas station in Federal Way

Officers located a man with apparent gunshot wounds around 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 15.

One man was shot during a dispute near the Fred Meyer gas station on Monday afternoon.

At about 12:30 p.m. May 15, Federal Way Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at Fred Meyer (33702 21st Ave. SW), according to Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of the Federal Way Police Department. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man in his early to mid-30s with apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers provided emergency medical care until fire and medic crews arrived. The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The man who was shot and another man in his early 20s were involved in a dispute in the parking lot near the fuel pumps that escalated into a shooting, Schwan said. However, it is not clear what caused the dispute. Initial reports indicate both men were armed with handguns and one of the men, or both, may have fired their weapons, Schwan said.

The second man in his 20s, who was wearing all black, fled the area in a black sedan before officers arrived. Officers recovered a handgun at the scene.

This is an active incident.
