Water warrior training: Firefighters get wet

South King Fire and Rescue’s Technical Rescue Team held three days of training in local waters the last weekend of April to practice and increase their skills in Puget Sound. This included for the first time, joint training between the fire departments’ rescue swimmer team and Marine 26 boat team. Marine 26 is moored in the Des Moines marina and is responsible for primary rescue and fire suppression in Puget Sound from Dash Point to Des Moines. South King Fire and Rescue’s service district has many fresh water lakes and is bordered by the waters of Puget Sound, which is why firefighters train in a variety of water rescues and water environments. The specialized units will continue their training and plan on participating in a regional training event in June that includes fire, police and United States Coast Guard agencies.
