Federal Way resident Jeri Worklan-Eubanks is co-chair of the 2010 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, scheduled for June 6 at Seattle Center.

She has organized the Survivors’ Celebration the past seven years. The celebration offers a place to get food and goodie bags as well as socialize with breast cancer survivors.

“There’s a common thread that runs through the heart of survivors, and that’s faith,” she said. “I love educating people about breast cancer.”

Worklan-Eubanks holds a degree in chemistry and formerly worked in the health care industry. She became involved in Race for the Cure after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999. The disease was caught early and she did not undergo chemotherapy. Worklan-Eubanks calls herself a poster child for early detection. She is in awe of Nancy Brinker, who started the Komen Foundation in honor of sister Susan, who died from breast cancer in 1980.

“What she has done — one woman — has made a huge difference in millions of lives.”
