Puget Sound photo display

A new photography exhibit, focusing on Puget Sound nature, will run from Oct. 5 through Jan. 8 at the Knutzen Family Theatre, 3200 Dash Point Road. Jay Galvin’s photos of blue herons, Mt. Rainier, river otters and insects will all be open for viewing 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and whenever a show is running. Galvin is a local to the area, living in the Auburn Valley since 1981. He started photographing during his hiking trips five years ago. He has already had a showing in Auburn, won the annual photo contest for the City of SeaTac and won second place for the People’s Choice award in the City of Kent Cornucopia art exhibit.

4 Culture grants

4Culture will be sending money to some Federal Way arts groups. Centerstage Theatre will receive $7,500 and Federal Way Symphony will receive $6,500. The money is part of 4Culture’s federal stimulus funding. 4Culture received the $250,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts after applying earlier this year.

Aria annual showcase

The Aria Dance Company’s annual showcase production, “Below the Surface,” will take place 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway, Seattle. Symphony’s Fall Gala

“Come to the Masquerade” is the inviting theme for the Federal Way Symphony’s third annual Fall Gala at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club in Federal Way. The fundraiser benefits the symphony and its youth programs. Organizers have planned a colorful and festive evening of fun, featuring an elegant dinner and silent and live auctions. Other highlights include live music during the silent auction. Symphony music director and conductor A. Brian Davenport will play the piano. Several Federal Way Symphony musicians will perform.
