The City of Federal Way is inviting the Latino community to gather together from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 7 for a free dinner and information night at Federal Way High School, 30611 16th Ave. S.

Agencies from Federal Way and King County will be present to offer information and provide access to their services.

A special presentation on immigrant rights and immigration law will be provided by Daniel Perez from Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

Latino families often have limited access to public services due to language limitations, fear of discrimination or legal consequences, or they are not aware of what services are available.

This event brings many useful resources into one place so more families are served at one time.

Some agencies that will attend: Headstart, Northwest Justice Project, Multi-Service Center, Highline Community College, Public Health, YWCA, DSHS, Catholic Community Services and the Federal Way Public Libraries.

Families will also enjoy Mexican and Salvadorian food provided by generous donations from Zapata Taquería, Las Margaritas Catering, Mi Chalateca, Torrero’s Taquería, Torrero’s Restaurant, Puerto Vallarta, Mi Tiendita Latina II and Azteca.

A prize drawing includes a computer for families with children in middle school, high school or college.

All services and information will be provided in Spanish.

Besides helping families receive services, gathering as a community benefits the Latino population as a whole.

They become a more visible presence in the community and thus local government cannot ignore them as a powerful group and a valuable part of the community where they live.
