The Federal Way Symphony will host its 13th Annual Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 21.

Visit six private gardens in the community and the Browns Point Lighthouse and Garden, where Alison Kutz, horticulturalist, will give presentations on “Discovering Nature’s Lessons in Your Garden.”  The presentations will be at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Learn from Master Gardeners and check out unusual plants. Listen to music and see the works of local artisans in these exquisitely landscaped gardens.

Other gardens on the tour include The Caledonia Summit Conservatory, the largest of its kind in the western U.S.

Garden spotlight: The Goodwin/Hutchison Garden

This park-like family property has been lovingly owned and cared for since 1942 by a dedicated member of the Dash Point Garden Club (formerly SeaBreeze Club). It continues to be enjoyed every day for weddings, photo shoots, community events, family gatherings, and now as a peaceful cottage vacation rental.

The owners continue the tradition of sharing this serene setting and its incredible vistas of Puget Sound with visitors from all over the country. The “perennial garden” for the birds and butterflies, the “red-white-and-blue garden” with its flagpole, and the “special garden” with plant names of family and friends all combine to interest expert and novice gardeners alike.

Come enjoy the patio of marble, built for elegant picnics, or the patio of patterned stone, designed for hot dog roasts. The elements of this garden — the gazebo overlooking the Dash Point dock, the

trellises supporting climbing roses, clematis, honeysuckle and wisteria, the potting shed, and the greenhouse — have all been created and maintained by family members.
