Federal Way Food Bank seeks turkey donations for Thanksgiving meals

During the week of Thanksgiving, the food bank will give out ingredients typically found in a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

From staff reports:

Multi-Service Center hopes to help more than 1,400 households have an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday this year with the annual holiday food giveaway at the Federal Way Food Bank. During the week of Thanksgiving, the food bank will give out ingredients typically found in a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

However, food donations are down this year and the food bank does not have enough frozen turkeys, hams or chickens to distribute with the other meal ingredients. The food bank is turning to the community for donations to serve needy families.

Each family will receive items in a typical Thanksgiving dinner including fresh produce, canned cranberries, yams, dessert mixes, rolls and butter. Frozen meat will be distributed as available.

Food bank customers have already scheduled appointments to pick up their Thanksgiving food on Nov. 22, 23 and 24. While the Multi-Service Center purchases extra food for Thanksgiving, the food bank does rely on help from the community to supplement these purchases.

Donations of can be brought to the food bank warehouse, 1200 S. 336th St. (off the alley in back), from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Items donated up until mid-day on Nov. 22 will be given to people for Thanksgiving. Non-holiday food donations are always welcome.

Multi-Service Center’s Federal Way Food Bank serves approximately 16,000 Federal Way residents a year with supplemental and emergency food. To learn more, contact Terri Turner at (253) 838-6810 or visit www.multi-servicecenter.com.
