Federal Way Community Calendar | Oct. 3 edition

The Federal Way Mirror’s 2025 candidate forum will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Family Life Community Church’s auditorium, 32275 32nd Ave. S., Federal Way.

Federal Way Farmers Market: Open 9 a.m. 3 p.m. Saturdays through October at The Commons mall in Federal Way in the south parking lot along South 324th Street and Pacific Highway.

Civic Education and Voter Registration Trainings: Participants at this workshop will learn the legislative process in Washington state, and explore the importance of citizen participation through history and recent bills. Led by system-impacted facilitators, the program centers on BIPOC and incarcerated perspectives, making civic education inclusive, empowering and healing-focused. There are two more upcoming opportunities: 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 29 virtually, and from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 also at 32275 32nd Ave. S. Fall Festival: Join the Performing Arts and Event Center for its Fall Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4. There will be live music, bounce house, fun and games, and local vendors showcasing their crafts and offering food for purchase. Families can also enjoy a variety of craft opportunities, participate in our community art project, and sit for a screening of Disney’s “Coco” in the theater at the PAEC, located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. in Federal Way.

Troop 361 Open House: Scout Troop 361 has been serving the youth of Federal Way, Fife, Milton and NE Tacoma since 1989. Learn more at their upcoming open house from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Steele Lake Grange located at 2902 S. 298th St. in Federal Way.

Mirror’s candidate forum: The Federal Way Mirror’s 2025 candidate forum will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Family Life Community Church’s auditorium, 32275 32nd Ave. S., Federal Way. The evening will be split between the mayoral candidates (Jim Ferrell and Susan Honda) and the council candidates (Martin Moore, Nathan Orth, Tammy Dziak, Melissa Hamilton, Jack Dovey, Les Sessoms). Creating Generational Greatness: Build 2 Lead is hosting an event for young entrepreneurs and professionals from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Family Life Center located at 32275 32nd Ave. S. in Federal Way. The event will feature networking opportunities, workshops, food, raffles and more.

Repair Cafe: Bring damaged furniture, broken small household items, dull knives and torn clothing to the upcoming free fix-it event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at the South King Tool Library located at 1700 S. 340th Place in Federal Way. The event is hosted by the Federal Way Public Works Department.

Native Plant and Garden Workshops: There are two chances to take part in this hands-on, community-focused event in partnership with Free the Green and Ecological Restoration. Learn about gardening with native and edible plants featuring live demonstrations of electric and manual tools. Sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 at the South King Tool Library, 1700 S. 340th Place in Federal Way. Register at www.southkingtools.org.

Southend Friends for Peace and Justice: A demonstration takes place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday on the corner of 320th Street and Pacific Hwy. S. The next large peaceful protest will take place on Oct. 18.

Library Book Sale: The Friends of Federal Way Libraries is holding a sale of gently used books, DVDs, CDs and more to help support library programming. A members only presale will take place from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Federal Way library, 34200 1st Way S. (memberships are available at the door). The sale will then open up to the general public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the same location. Cash or check will be the only payment forms accepted.

City Council: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the council chambers (upstairs and to the left) at City Hall, located at 33325 8th Ave. S.

Civic Champions – Youth Town Hall: Build 2 Lead is hosting a town hall with the top two contenders for King County Executive, Girmay Zahilay and Claudia Balducci, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Family Life Center, 32275 32nd Ave. S. in Federal Way. The discussion will be moderated by State Representative Jesse Johnson, host of The Day With Trae, Trae Holiday and Build 2 Lead’s Jimmy Brown. Topics will include youth voice on gun violence, education, workforce development and much more.

Drive-thru Recycling Event: Bring up to three mattresses or box springs and up to ten tires for recycling between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Oct. 25 to the South King Tool Library, 1700 S. 340th Place in Federal Way. Shredding will be available for documents as well.
