Run With The Cops: This annual 5K race is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Washington. It starts at the Federal Way Community Center at 9 a.m. Aug. 26. Around 200 people support the event annually, according to the city. Register at: https://tinyurl.com/runwithcopsFW. Pre-registration is $30, or $40 if signing up day-of the run.

Lions Car Show: Visit The Commons Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 for the Federal Way Lions Club’s 18th annual scholarship car show. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for high school seniors in the Federal Way School District.

Free back-to-school haircuts: Bella Red Salon will provide free haircuts for students ages 5 to 18 on Aug. 28 from noon to 7 p.m. at Town Square Park. The first 500 kids will be served; there’s no need to tip.

“Dive-in” movies at Wild Waves: Catch a showing at the Wild Waves theme park wave pool from 5 to 7 on Aug. 31 of “DC League of Super Pets.”

Next City Council meeting: 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in the council chambers (upstairs and to the left) at City Hall (33325 8th Ave. S).

Hot off the Presses: The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the paper from 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation and coffee. You’ll be able to ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need.
