Cash for guns event: From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 16, receive compensation for firearms from the Federal Way Police Department at the City Hall parking lot located at 33325 8th Avenue South. $25 for antique/junk firearms, $50 for muzzle-loading firearms (pre-WWII), $100 for rifles, pistols and revolvers, $200 for shotguns, $300 for AR-15s, AK-47s and similar rifles.

PYC’s 1 Year Anniversary: From 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 17, celebrate with PYC Sweets and Wine Bar, located at 32925 1st Ave. S., Suite S, Federal Way.

Free Back 2 School Haircuts: Back for the third year, the back-to-school haircutting event will provide free haircuts to local residents from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at Town Square Park, located at 31600 Pete von Reichbauer Way S.

Back-to-School Bash: The Table will be doing a big backpack and grocery giveaway from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 in the parking lot of the Commons Mall.

Ukrainian Community Flag Raising: Join the city and the American-Ukrainian community and friends for a community gathering at 9 a.m on Saturday, Aug. 23, at City Hall, located at 33325 8th Ave. S. Join the city leaders as the community raises the Ukrainian flag in recognition of Ukraine’s independence and enduring spirit.

Repair Cafe: Join the South King Tool Library for a community-driven Repair Café event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23. This is an opportunity to bring broken items and learn how to fix them with the help of skilled volunteers. This event will take place at the South King Tool Library, located at 1700 S. 340th Place in Federal Way.

Beauty of our African Roots: In the 3rd annual youth culture event presented by the African Young Dreamers Empowerment Program Intl (AYDEPI), enjoy music and dance, fashion, community voices and African food. The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m Aug. 23, at the Family Life Center, 32275 32nd Ave. S. in Federal Way.

Pasifika Scholars Kick-Off: The Pacific Islanders Community Association of Washington is hosting a free community back to school event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 26 at their office in Federal Way located at 33710 9th Ave. S. Suite 8. Free backpacks and school supplies, food and cotton candy, haircuts, facepainting and games and activities will all be available.

Kids Clothing Swap: Come and discover a variety of new-to-you clothing items for free while you take the time to clean out those outgrown sizes and prepare for the upcoming school year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30. This swap is a chance to refresh your children’s wardrobes as well as a way to promote sustainability by giving clothes a second life. This event will take place at the South King Tool Library, located at 1700 S. 340th Place in Federal Way.

City Council: 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2 in the council chambers (upstairs and to the left) at City Hall, located at 33325 8th Ave. S.

Back to School Block Party: Join hosts Game of Life Mentoring and Phenomenal She for this exciting annual event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Federal Way Memorial Field, located at 1300 S. 308th St. in Federal Way. The event will feature food vendors, backpack giveaways, resource fairs, speakers, free haircuts, performances.

Federal Way’s Got Talent Finale: The annual Federal Way’s Got Talent event has just a few more opportunities for try outs, then the contest finale will take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Federal Way Farmers Market, located at the Commons mall in Federal Way in the south parking lot along South 324th Street and Pacific Highway.

Hot off the Presses: The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the paper from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation, coffee, beer, wine and appetizers. You’ll be able to ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need. Poverty Bay Café is located at 1108 S. 322nd Place in Federal Way, north of Celebration Park.

Taste of Federal Way: Try tasty bites from local favorites and support a local nonprofit at the annual event from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Commons Mall.
