Federal Way Cares for Kids provides toys, gift cards to more than 200 local families

Due to the pandemic, the nonprofit created a five-day drive thru pick up event.

Despite the challenges of this year, more than 200 local families were given a happy holiday season by Federal Way Cares for Kids.

Federal Way Cares for Kids, a local nonprofit, coordinates the talents, resources and skills of local organizations and individuals to maximize support received by kids and families served by Federal Way schools.

With efforts spread throughout the community, the nonprofit was able to serve 210 families with toys and gift cards for all ages, benefitting about 700 children.

Due to the pandemic, the traditional experience of creating a one-day shopping experience for the parents and a holiday extravaganza for the kids was not able to take place.

The FWC team worked together to select and bag the toys, and created a five-day drive thru pick up for each family. The drive thru events was hosted at Grace Church by pastors Misty & Omar Lara.

This year’s event was made possible by the generous donations of community and corporate partners: Communities in Schools, Federal Way Public Schools, South King Fire and Rescue, Federal Way Police Guild, Federal Way Black Collective, St. Francis Lab Department, Qualstar Credit Union, Temple Fitness, Bill McHales, Coldwell Banker Danforth, We Love Our City, Grace Church, Journey Church, Bella Red Salon, Family Life Community Church, Chick-fil-A, NW Payment Brokers, and Anthem Church.
