Come to the Masquerade: FW Symphony’s Fall Gala on Oct. 17

Come to the masquerade and discover some unique and fun auction items, said Federal Way Symphony auction chairwoman Glenna Cameron.

The symphony’s masquerade-themed third annual Fall Gala dinner and auction will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at Federal Way’s Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club, starting at 6 p.m. The fundraiser will benefit symphony concerts and its youth programs.

Topping the live auction list is a two-week stay at a southern Portugal five-bedroom villa, offering plenty of time to explore the local fishing village and historical castles, sample delicious food and play golf.

Auction-goers will also have a chance to bid on six nights at the Mayan Sea Garden Resort, located in Nuevo Puerto Vallarta on Banderas Bay, the largest natural bay in Mexico.

Beach getaways closer to home are also being auctioned. They include overnight stays at Bainbridge Island, Ocean Shores and Lincoln City, Ore.

A unique opportunity awaits art glass lovers. Twelve brightly-colored, hand-blown glass bowls and vases from Seattle artist Dehanna Jones will be both dinner table centerpieces and auction items.

Jones’ work is known for its intense contemporary colors and bold patterns, created by layering many opaque and transparent colors and separated by thin layers of clear. This technique gives the color a depth and richness not often seen in most blown forms, a Jones brochure stated.

Besides Washington, Jones has exhibited in other states, for example, California, Georgia, Maryland, Oregon, Texas and Virginia. The symphony auction is a rare opportunity to see and purchase her art glass, which will be hand selected by the artist herself, specifically for the symphony auction.

The cost of the event is $80 per person. To make reservations, call the symphony office at (253) 529-9857. For more information, visit www.federalwaysymphony.org.
