Centerstage begins its season of mystery on Oct. 3

“Miss Holmes Returns” is a standalone sequel to last year’s hit production.

A young woman is on the run, wanted for murder. The dead man’s ties to a shadowy criminal underworld have brought the case to the attention of Sherlock and Watson, who are pursuing a mastermind known only as The Professor. Sherlock has been asked by the government to find and destroy The Professor’s web of corruption. However, their path to shedding light on the seedier parts of society has put them on a collision course with the pillars of power in the British Empire … and Sherlock’s own brother.

“Miss Holmes Returns” by Christopher Walsh is coming to Federal Way beginning on Oct. 3. The latest production from Centerstage Theatre is “at turns funny, suspenseful, and insightful,” according to a press release, and is a standalone sequel to Centerstage’s production of “Miss Holmes,” performed last season.

This production features local actors (and some returning from Miss Holmes) including Trista Duval as Miss Sherlock Homes, Atlas Peek as Dr. Dorothy Watson, Varun Kainth as Mycroft Homes, Tim Takechi as Geoffrey Lestrade, Amy Anderson as Mrs. Hudson, Mrinalini Msriin as Priya Singh, Bil Nowicki as Daniel Burke, Shelleigh-Mairi Ferguson as Josephine Butler, Christina Ramirez as Olive McGann, Aya Hashiguchi as Mrs. Wiggins, Josh Wingerter as Adam Worthington, and Jonna Nguyen as Dock Worker.

This production is the first introduction to Centerstage’s “Season of Mystery” this year.

“There’s something irresistible about a mystery — the allure of piecing together clues, of holding a secret no one else knows, of diving headfirst into an adventure full of twists and turns,” Marketing Manager Rylie Latham said in a press release. “Mysteries thrill us with surprises, challenge us to see connections, and reveal truths about human nature. Sure, they’re fun on the page or screen — but nothing compares to the electricity of experiencing a great story live, surrounded by fellow audience members sharing every gasp, laugh, and revelation.”

This season, Centerstage invites audiences to celebrate the genre in many different forms, whether that is through “suspense, laughter, disguises, mistaken identities, chills, and those unforgettable ‘I didn’t see that coming!’ moments.”

“Miss Holmes Returns” will be directed by local director Alyson Soma with Niclas Olson as the tech director and set designer, Elizabeth Bonar as the lighting designer, and costumes designed by Krista Lofgren. The visual artist is Shawna Myatt, with props by Jeffery Swiney-Weaver, set dressing by Jeff Wallace Jr., Chelsea “Mo” Moniz as the sound designer, with stage manager Ashlyn Bagocius and Dean Marshall as assistant stage manager.

The Knutzen Family Theatre is located at 3200 SW Dash Point Rd., Federal Way. General admission tickets are $40 in advance (online or over the phone) and $43 at the door. Student, military and senior ticket discounts are available. More details are available online at www.CenterstageTheatre.com or by calling 253-661-1444.
