You can raise my taxes to hire more police | Letters

Maybe get some officers out there on emphasis DUI stops and make it uncomfortable for these guys to hang out in Federal Way. Long term and strategically, as a homeowner and a supporter of our local police, I’ll vote yes for more police. I think others would too. You can raise my taxes to help pay for it.

(RE: Fatal shooting outside Johnny’s Famous Bar and Grill):

Could you look into how many police responses and possible liquor board action has taken place here in the last year?

This is a very bad business that over-serves and attracts a drug-using crowd. The parking lot is trashed with liquor bottles and drug paraphernalia frequently. Do we really want to attract people from all around the Puget Sound to this one bar? Why do you think they come from all over? I can only guess.

When the original owner had it, it was a great neighborhood gathering spot for locals. I quit going there about three years ago. As a former restaurant and lounge operator, I could see the handwriting on the wall when the ownership changed and the late-night “entertainment” began.

The City of Federal Way just received accolades for getting a handle on the Transit Center, but I am tired of seeing our city poorly reflected with the type of issues we can see coming. I’ll bet that the number of police responses to this establishment is on the top five list of problem bars in the city and worthy of an undercover visit by the state liquor board. Although now that people get killed there, this will probably take care of anybody wanting to go there. On the other hand, if it’s gang related, we can only expect more retaliation shootings in the bar and neighborhood.

Unfortunately for the city and as a 27-year resident, I stay away from that entire strip mall and spend my money in Tacoma at either the restaurant at Northshore Golf Course or the Cliff House.
