We need more self-governing | Federal Way letters, April 30

I just read the piece political columnist Angie Vogt wrote in The Mirror (“In the gospel of government,” April 25).

Wow. Thank you so much for writing so clearly and concisely the things many of us wish to. I completely agree with you. Less government and more self-governing. A friend of mine said the other day: “Bailout? Shouldn’t the church be the bailout?” Truly, before welfare programs we, the church, were the “fairing well” and those that provided for others.

Recently, I was reading Acts (again) and was struck with such impact by verses 2:44 and 4:32. Don’t misunderstand me, not a nod to communism by any means, but they shared as a declaration of love. Out of gratefulness to a savior that held nothing back, they surrendered their individual comforts to love each other. My husband and I have experienced such profound humbling this year with unemployment and medical challenges. We have never been more thankful for the church we serve selflessly — we never expected to need help, but they fed and clothed us when we did. Like he did. And now we are doing it for others.

Thank you again for your words.
