W-City and the high-rise name game | Federal Way letters

W-City. What does it say to you? Hmmm, wait for it. That’s right, nothing, zilch, nada!

The ongoing drama with regard to the old 4.1-acre AMC Theatres site has been handed over to Twin Development LLC. The building plan for the site has changed a bit, and I will not go into that. Twin Development has named it W-City. United Properties, the former developer, had named the site “Symphony” — not bad.

Mayor Linda Kochmar has stated her concern for the new project’s name and wishes to see it changed. Bravo Linda! It is well within the pervay of the council to set guidelines and oversight for development within the City of Federal Way. Naming rights are very much part of that.

We are “Federal Way,” please. There is no need for a sub-city within. Have the name reflect something that is unique to history or geography of our region. My offering is “Tahoma Square” — Tahoma being the Native American name for Mt. Rainier.
