I am one of nearly half of the voters that voted “no” last year as to whether we should have an elected mayor. So when I hear or read that having an elected mayor is a positive change for our city, I say that it is an untested and unknown conclusion. Federal Way has never had an elected mayor before. And, because of that, we will not know for some time whether this is the right or wrong decision.
I believe too that it is our responsibility as voters to select the very best and most qualified candidate to become our mayor. Those who believe that Jim Ferrell should be ordained to this position, on the premise to the victor goes the spoils, are just wrong. Our new mayor needs to be highly qualified and capable of making this change in government a success. And, whether we voted for or against this change, it is only common sense to elect the most qualified candidate.
That is why I am voting for State Rep. Skip Priest who has a 20-year-plus background of working with people to get things done. He knows them because he has worked with them not only from a political position but also at a community level as a volunteer. He has served the Federal Way schools not only as a legislator but also as an advisor. And he has supported the Wetlands of the Hylebos as an active member. He has served on the local Boy Scout council as a board member. He has shown continuously his personal commitment to his community.
Please join me in voting for Skip Priest for mayor. He is the best candidate for the job.
Don Fuehr, Federal Way
