If you have been watching TV lately, you will have seen an advertisement from Rob McKenna (the Republican candidate who is running for governor).

In the ad, McKenna claims his top two priorities as governor would be to fully fund education and to create jobs.

You might believe the second priority, but you can’t believe the first. As everyone knows, talk is cheap. If you will recall, when McKenna was our Attorney General — not once but twice — he appealed lower court decisions that would have required the state to fully fund education.

Everyone should remember the first case because it was filed by the Federal Way School District. I was in Olympia and heard the state’s appeal. But they didn’t make their case and I was shocked when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state.

On the second appeal, the Supreme Court finally got it right and ruled in favor of the schools, sending the clear message to the state and the Legislature that “you aren’t doing your job in fully funding basic education.”

I can’t support a political candidate who flip-flops on an important issue like this because I call it “political double-talk,” and it is a clear indication you can’t trust what the candidate says.
