Missing packages in Federal Way | Letter to the editor

My name is Darleen. I have a husband, Duane, and we live on a fixed income here in northern Arizona.

I need to save for gifts I send out to my family members. We use UPS to ship these gifts. This year I had saved for 6-8 months just so I could send some great gifts.

Last night we got a call from a person in Federal Way. She said she had got a box that was empty and it had our address on it. She said she got our phone number and called to see if it could be a mistake. She did not know her father had sent her a package, and after checking the package, it should have come on the day she got the empty box that I had sent to my daughter.

When I called my daughter, she said she had also got an empty box and it was addressed to someone in Auburn. We are trying to see what we can do to make other people know what is happening. Now I know there are a lot of people out there who are on the same fixed income I am, and cannot afford to replace any gift the second time.

What we think is that someone is following the UPS truck, is taking an empty box (a box that they have stolen from another home) to the door, exchanging it for a full box, and walking away with it, taking whatever is in the box and doing the same to the next stop.

My daughter is very upset about this, as we all are. Please let us know if you can help, or get the word out to alert others so this does not happen to them.
