I am a high school student who plays varsity volleyball and basketball at Todd Beamer High School.
This school year, I have decided to hone in on my education and academics. This decision led me to choose home-based education for this school year.
As a part of my studies, I have included weekly readings of the Federal Way Mirror. On Sept. 21, I was very intrigued by your guest columnist Jason Coleman and his article “Family values matter during election season.” I enjoyed his personal life experiences trickled throughout the article. Being an athlete myself, I could relate to the sports analogy.
As I embark on my studies in history this year with upcoming elections, I really appreciated the way he challenged readers to look past the labels of parties and really look intently at the character of the person. I likened that to “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but to really wrestle with well laid out thoughts and ideas, not just facts.
On a different note, being on the volleyball team, I need to express my disappointment with the lack of coverage of my sport.
