Irked by the school board | Federal Way letters

It is my understanding that to make the Federal Way School District a higher and better institution of learning, the Federal Way School Board has blown it again. This time, they passed over a chance to hire a qualified educator to be principal of an elementary school in Federal Way. I will not use names or genders in an effort to protect this person, who was overlooked, nor the school they had applied for the position of principal.

They, the school board, decided to rehire a former principal, who left the district, but returned to apply for the job at the elementary school. The person they passed over was far more qualified, even if not a principal, but a vice principal, at an elementary school. This person has been a longtime resident of Federal Way, has taught at the middle school level, has subbed, served as a principal, during summer vacation last year at an elementary school in Federal Way, taught at Rogers High School in Puyallup for two years, and the list goes on.

Also this person has a master’s degree in education from the University of Washington, and is fluent in sign language for many hearing impaired students, and also can sign in Spanish. Also, this educator has been able to relate to children who have very poor home problems so they can go on. This was part of the job at the school where this person was vice principal. This person cares about the welfare of children and wants to help them, in every way, so they can go on to higher and a better education.

The Federal Way School Board only looked at the one they hired because of the past history in Federal Way. I think they will be very sorry they missed out on the one they passed over. I think it was very selfish of the one they hired, and had left the district, only to return, maybe at the encouragement of one of the friends on the school board?
