I first met Martin Moore in his role as a campaign manager for State Rep. Roger Freeman. I’ve been impressed with his approachability, honesty and willingness to work for Federal Way. I like it that he looks at the empty buildings — and there are plenty of them — in Federal Way as “an opportunity and not as a burden.”

Having grown up here, Martin knows that we need to build for the future for Federal Way. I’m impressed that Martin lobbied to cap campaign contributions for local candidates. Candidates should work for their vote — not have it purchased by those with fat wallets.

Martin served on the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission for several years and believes in the saying, “All means all,” meaning our parks should be inclusive for those of all walks of life, including those with disabilities. During his tenure as a parks commissioner, Martin has been a leading voice in advocating for an all-inclusive parks system. As a councilmember, we can count on Martin to make sure that Federal Way parks continue to improve upon the progress that’s been made. Parks such as Steel Lake Park should be available to all, and Martin works to make that happen.

Martin was telling me recently how he went on a ride-along with the Federal Way Police to have a better understanding of what they do and what they go through. Martin has been endorsed by The News Tribune, amongst many others.

To learn more and to meet the candidates, attend the upcoming candidate forum. I’m often surprised at how few people attend these. They can really give one insight into a candidate.

The Federal Way Mirror is hosting candidate forums for contested races in the 2013 primary elections. Debates will be held July 31 at the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club.

Martin is an ethical, authentic and approachable man with a vision. Let’s make sure he fills the seat for position 6 of our Federal Way City Council.
