Housing development creates deadly recipe | Federal Way letters

I have lived at my present address for 22 years now. The current conditions in front of our home are ripe for deadly consequences.

I have lived at my present address for 22 years now. The current conditions in front of our home are ripe for deadly consequences.

The new housing development (Silverwood) that went in over five years ago linking into SW 360th Street at 12th Avenue has increased speeding vehicle traffic tenfold. The new city park at SW 360th Street and 15th Avenue has created a magnet for pedestrians. SW 360th between 12th Avenue and 15th Avenue has no sidewalk; in many instances, it doesn’t even have a dirt shoulder to walk on.

Pedestrians are forced to walk in the street to and from the City of Federal Way’s “Madrona Park.” The Federal Way School District has several buses that stop at the corner of SW 360th Street and 14th Avenue, putting our school children onto SW 360th Street.

All of this comes together to create a recipe for an accident between the pedestrians walking in the road and all of the fast moving vehicular traffic going by. The city made promises to the neighborhood about the connection of our area to the new development next door to us (east of SW 360th Street and 12th Avenue) that traffic wouldn’t be an issue, but it is.

Please install speed bumps/humps on SW 360th Street between 15th Avenue and 12th Avenue.
