Horrifying confrontations with Federal Way pets? | Letters

I agree with the position of off-leash pets (“Off-leash pets: Please be proactive,” letters, May 4). However, regardless of on-leash or off-leash, the human part of the team must be able to control the strength of their pet or pets.

When pets jerk the restraint from the control of the human partner, great physical and emotional pain can be the result. Horrifying confrontations can be the result of trying to separate a savage attack from either the attacking or the pet being attacked. The fight-or-flight instinct can cause madness. I know this to be true.

We all need to be more vigilant and be able to control our pets or perhaps don’t expose them to the possibility of confrontation. Federal Way has a “park for dogs.”
