Fewer cameras, more police dogs | Federal Way letters

Several days ago, I was listening to “The Commentators” on the radio. They were discussing the use of surveillance cameras. John Carlson was arguing for the use of the cameras, and Ken Schram was arguing against the use of cameras.

Carlson was pointing out the success of cameras in Federal Way. We have cameras in several places including busy intersections and the transit center. Schram was saying that these cameras were just the “foot in the door.” Eventually, we will all be sorry. “Big Brother” will be watching every move we make. I must say that for once, I was in complete agreement with Schram.

The very next day, a young man was shot and killed at the transit center. Did those cameras stop the shooter? No, but the police dog helped catch the alleged killer. Now the cry will be for more cameras. I say, let’s get more police dogs and fewer cameras.
