Ferrell should do his job or resign | Federal Way letters

I noticed a number of currently sitting city council members are on columnist Bob Roegner’s list of potential candidates for Federal Way’s new elected mayor position.

I also see that all of them are currently voting on issues that concern this new position except for Jim Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell is not voting on any of these same issues. Mr. Ferrell, you are not mayor of this city as of yet, you are not mayor-elect, but you are a sitting member of the city council. You have an obligation to participate in the formation of our new form of city government — that is why you were elected and that is why you receive payment for your service.

If other elected officials took the attitude that they could not vote on issues impacting a position for which they might run, nothing would ever get done. You have announced you are a candidate for mayor. If this is the type of leadership we can expect from you if you are elected, I choose to find another option. If you cannot find the strength to do your job, resign and let someone else represent us while you run for mayor. We deserve seven people voting for our future form of government. What we have now are six people representing the people of Federal Way and one (you) representing your own interest. The old saying “when the going gets tough, the tough get going” certainly does not apply to your efforts over the past several weeks.

Once again, Mr. Ferrell, I ask you to do your job or resign and let someone else represent us.

Tim McClain, Federal Way
