‘Feel good illusion of equality’ for women | Federal Way letters

Array

Thank you, Amy Johnson and The Mirror, for the March 20 column “The roar behind ‘I Am Woman.’”

It is the only publicity I saw reminding us that March is “Women’s Month” and of the ongoing struggle, the disabilities under which women still labor.

As a founder and veteran of the women’s movement during the period of Helen Reddy’s song and prior, I still am frustrated about what is left undone. The “feel good illusion of equality” referred to must be the opiate of current generations of women who appear to be willing to live with the status quo.

The current epidemic of violence against women, children and the elderly is outrageous. People are not property. Not to be bought or sold, beat up, destroyed, shot, stabbed, burned, sexually savaged or otherwise used for the convenience or sadistic pleasures of uncontrolled latter-day barbarians.

I would like to hear from others who wish to discuss issues affecting women today.
