Federal Way Mirror Letters to the Editor | Sept. 24

Opposition to zoning project

I am writing this letter to Federal Way assistant planner Matt Herrera and the City of Federal Way, to oppose the zoning of this particular property to build two family homes (zoning project 08-101619-UP).

This particular area as you know is a portal for the children of Federal Way to and from Decatur High School and Lakota Middle School. This has been like this for 25-plus years (as I walked it myself).

Building homes in this area would stop the foot traffic of the students that use this safe foot path to get to school and route them to the communities in the surrounding area. The building of these homes would also interrupt the existence of a running stream. The children would be traveling through the neighborhoods above the pathway, in large groups, and also would be traveling down 21st Avenue South, which is less safe and has exposure to much traffic.

Federal Way has been growing non-stop for the past 25 years and it seems builders as yourself want to take up every last piece of property there is left to be found and build something. There are enough homes in Federal Way for two families to look around and buy something elsewhere rather than take away more land, disrupt a running stream in Federal Way and take away a safe traveling path for our children.
