Federal Way can cash in by building a convention center | Letters

I am writing to present the ultimate idea for development of the old AMC property.

Forget the high-rises that you cannot see the flower gardens from atop. I am going to get right to the prosperous point that all Federal Way has been looking for.

Can you realize what a visitors convention center could offer Federal Way?

We could have members of the businesses, unions and organizations from all over the Northwest utilizing the convention center.

We could have extra buses from the Federal Way Transit Center to take people to “special destinations” (at their expense).

Some would ask why people would want their convention, seminar or business meetings in Federal Way. They might ask: What does Federal Way have to offer those who would be looking for a place to hold their business gathering? I look at Federal Way and see places of interest and entertainment for those delegates, CEOs, managers and leaders of organizations.

First as I mentioned putting extra buses at the transit center to take those visitors to the Knutzen Family Theatre, the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club, Celebration Park, the flagship community garden at Federal Way Senior Center, Dash Point State Park and the Federal Way Community Center, which features swimming, an exercise hall and rock climbing. There is the Hylebos Wetlands to see.

In time, they will have a civic center with the symphony to attend. For amusement and fun, there is Wild Waves Theme Park. Federal Way is a city of 90-plus churches in which to worship.

With just a short ride to Auburn, there is Emerald Downs race track, then there’s a short ride back to spend their winnings in Federal Way.

I’m sure these visitors would take trips to Seattle to see a ballgame, the Space Needle, the Pacific Science Center, some activity at Key Arena, the waterfront and maybe take a ferry ride. Then, there is Tacoma with various events in the Tacoma Dome as well as other points of interest.

The key to keeping them staying in hotels in Federal Way is affordability, if the price is right for the convention center and the hotels.

Federal Way has to have a “carrot” for them!

Bringing people to the Federal Way convention center and staying in Federal Way hotels would generate income from tax revenues and profits from the money spent at our Federal Way businesses. Conventioneers bring budgeted money to spend during their stay and we can profit from their spending.

So, let’s keep Federal Way clean and practice our congeniality and manners toward customers and Federal Way can get what we are looking for. Let us build a Federal Way convention center.
