Federal Way and AP tests | Letters, Feb. 18

I find the headline about state AP scores misleading (“State AP scores jump; Federal Way schools stay stagnant,” Feb. 11).

Though the number of Federal Way students passing with a score of three or higher has not kept pace with the large increase in number of students taking the test, you report that Federal Way is still higher than the state average, with almost 30 percent passing their AP tests last year (as compared to 15.5 percent in the state). The fact that the percent passing remains high even as more students (with an increase in minority populations) are taking the test, reflects well on the program.

Perhaps the headline could have been “Federal Way higher than state on AP tests.”
