Each of the four candidates has something unique to offer if elected to the position of mayor of Federal Way. What concerns me as a voter is the ulterior motives and half-hearted promises that drive some of the candidates.

Is it the power and prestige of the position that feeds their ego?

Is it the opportunity the position presents to use as a door opener to a higher state office?

Is it the prospect of the six-digit salary that makes it so attractive that they are willing to give up their “day job?”

Or is it the sincere determination to work with the city council to do everything possible in addressing the needs of our community?

I believe that Linda Kochmar is the only candidate who is truthful and genuine in her reasons for running for the mayoral position. She has 30 years of experience in serving Federal Way, and has been a member of the city council for the past 13 years. Linda has been an advocate for us the whole time, and proves her commitment in her everyday decision making. We can count on her because she hasn’t aspired to use her position to feed her ego or to move into a higher position of government.

With the city facing a $5 million deficit, other candidates are not being realistic in their discussions with voters as to what they would do if they were mayor. You can’t promise things that you cannot fulfill. Linda has integrity and cares deeply about Federal Way. She doesn’t talk out of the side of her mouth and say whatever a person wants to hear. She analyzes each situation carefully and keeps her priorities straight. People can depend on her because she is trustworthy and has a commonsense approach in her commitment to our city. She listens, learns, builds consensus and solves problems. She works to bring people and viewpoints together for the good of Federal Way and its citizens with dignity.

With all of the changes that are going to occur, it is important to have consistency and stability. This is the most important race for mayor in the history of Federal Way, and Linda will continue to build our city in a diligent and responsible manner.

Federal Way needs a mayor who understands the city and someone who can work in collaboration with others. Linda Kochmar has unequaled and proven qualifications as a respected advocate for our community.

I therefore hope that people will investigate each candidate and their motives and promises they are making for the mayoral position carefully. My research shows that Linda Kochmar has the recognized leadership, proven experience and integrity to represent Federal Way in this milestone election.
