Be careful where you do not tip | Letter

In response to the opinion of “not tipping,” be careful where you do not tip. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I earn part of my income from a “service charge.”

In the living wage increase, a service charge credit was included. That is basically a tip credit where the employer can deduct my wage as long as the service charge makes up the difference. Therefore, not everyone got the living wage increase.

Be careful how you go about saying everyone got a raise. Untrue — everyone in the service industry did not get a raise.
