What’s the rush?

It seems that ever since the current administration took office, there has been one crisis after another. I wonder how many have deliberately been manufactured.

There has been the real estate crisis. There has been the banking crisis. There has been the unemployment crisis. There has been the automobile crisis. There has been the environmental crisis. There has been the health care crisis. Immigration will be the next crisis.

Enough already! I can’t digest anymore!

What disturbs me is that we are told that each one is so serious that it must be solved immediately. For instance, the cap and trade bill was passed by the House before the bill was even printed. House members could not know what was in the bill, but they voted for it anyway. This does not say much for the kind of representation we have in Washington. The voting public certainly did not know what was in the bill. Let us hope that the Senate will show better judgment when it comes their turn to vote on this bill.

The president is now urging rapid approval of a health care bill. What’s the rush? This bill along with the cap and trade bill is life-changing legislation that will be with us for the rest of our lives. Let us not rush into this. Let us do it right rather than do it fast.

I urge our legislators to sit back and take a deep breath. Let the public be made aware of what we are getting in to. Do we really want to go down that road?
