Thank you, Raechel Dawson, for the article you wrote in the Federal Way Mirror on Aug. 28 regarding aircraft noise. Thank you also to the Mirror for printing the letter from the Federal Way citizen and what he and his family are going through, with the constant flights close to his home every 90 seconds.
I, for one, know for certain the Port of Seattle is going to give Federal Way and its citizens the same oral diatribe they gave those living in family-friendly Boulevard Park, Riverton Heights and the Highline School District.
Before we moved to Federal Way 18 years ago, the Port of Seattle convinced the powers that be they needed to build another runway, although runway one was ample in the late 1990’s. But build the second runway they did, without anyone in the small neighborhoods knowing what was going on.
Then came the talk of the third runway, a fight we lost. This is why we moved over 16 miles, after living in Boulevard Park for 36 years, away from Sea-Tac and the Port of Seattle. But once the third runway was open, oh, by the way, it was suppose to be an alternative in case of bad weather and/or problems on runways one and two. We noticed a number of flights from the third runway almost completely over our house on 12th Southwest and a couple of blocks from Dash Point Road.
Calls to noise abatement were a joke because we were called back, once, and when someone did, the usual oral diatribe was they were fixing runway one and had to use the third runway.
So you see citizens of Federal Way and Mayor Jim Ferrell, your complaints will fall on deaf ears because those who control the Port of Seattle do not live anywhere near Sea-Tac Airport, nor do they care how it affects small bedroom communities like Boulevard Park, Riverton Heights and small school districts such as Highline.
Right now, even people living in what was once was very nice condos at Glen Acres Golf and Country in Burien want to move out of the Boulevard Park because this once family-friendly neighborhood has been turned into a “jet ghetto,” thanks to the Port of Seattle and the increasing Sea-Tac growth. Also, Sea-Tac continues to grow larger and takes out more houses to the north of the airport.
The Port of Seattle will win, no matter how many complaints they get and for how long. Sorry fellow citizens of Federal Way, there is no stopping this giant of a land grabber, the Port of Seattle and their continual lies, to the smaller communities. I wouldn’t be surprised if the small city of Des Moines is on their next “hit” list. I see they are working on that little city, too.
