A South Korean chemical company has arrived in America to market a product that saves energy while reducing wear and tear on machinery.

Dongjin Group and its subsidiary, DJ Chemistry, recently opened an office at 1st Avenue South and South 320th Street in Federal Way.

The company makes a synthetic engine oil additive called DJSMP (“super miracle plus”), which enhances the lubrication qualities of standard motor oil in vehicles.

Statistics from the company’s tests suggest that DJSMP leads to greater fuel efficiency, cleaner engine emissions and decreased engine noise. When added to standard engine oil, improvement in fuel economy is listed at 23.7 percent for gasoline-powered cars and 29.2 percent for diesel-powered cars.

The company claims that DJSMP increases the expected lifespan of engine oil by 30 times, resulting in less oil waste, and increases the expected lifespan of an engine itself by three to five times.

In a recent demonstration for The Mirror, DJ Group CEO Chang-young Lee showed how DJSMP significantly reduces metal-on-metal friction when mixed with regular motor oil. A machine was calibrated with weights to increase pressure on metal gears. In a first test, a regular oil was used, and abrasion on gears increased as more pressure was applied.

The addition of DJSMP nearly eliminated friction and prevented the spinning metal from grinding to a halt — leaving behind a barely noticeable mark on the metal piece. Similar demonstrations can be viewed on YouTube.
