Poverty Bay Coffee plans to expand Federal Way location | Business Buzz

Poverty Bay Coffee is planning to expand by 1,500 square feet at its current location.

The coffee shop, owned by Alice and Dan Olmstead, is a popular meeting place for Federal Way locals. With the expansion, the location will more than double its current space of about 1,200 square feet. After renovations, the owners plan to serve bottled beer and wine as well as double the seating capacity to about 65 patrons.

Poverty Bay is located at 1108 S. 322nd Place, behind the Safeway off 320th Street. The expansion will include a grill and more food storage, allowing for more menu options, said Alice Olmstead. The remodeled facility will convert a portion of office space occupied by the adjacent Mutual Insurance Services, which is staying in business. The cost for the renovations was worked into their lease, Olmstead said of negotiations with the building’s landlord.

Olmstead expects the new facility to open in about six months after proper permits have been secured with the City of Federal Way.

“You can pray to the permit gods for us,” she said.
