Federal Way Kohl’s plans grand opening events this weekend

Kohl’s is set to open the doors to its new, 60,000-square-foot retail location in Federal Way at 9 a.m. Friday, March 7.

Kohl’s is set to open the doors to its new, 60,000-square-foot retail location in Federal Way at 9 a.m. on Friday.

The new store is located at 2101 S. Commons Way and will be managed by Rochelle Ocken.

Ocken said her and her team are ready to serve Federal Way.

“Kohl’s is excited to open the doors to our new Federal Way location, offering great savings on quality national and exclusive brands while helping shoppers to stay within their budgets. We are committed to delivering great customer service and to being a great community partner as well,” Ocken said.

The new store, Kohl’s 19th in Washington state, is bringing 125 jobs to Federal Way and will provide customers with “new enhancements and the company’s latest store design to provide customers with a fresh, exciting and convenient shopping experience.” Ocken also added that Federal Way is a good choice for Kohl’s because of the city’s demographics.

“Kohl’s looks for communities with high concentrations of families with children. We look for convenient locations close to where our customers live and work, providing great brands, value and convenience to shoppers in another new location,” she noted.

In celebration of the new store, The Commons is hosting two days of exclusive events and free gifts. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 8:45 a.m. Friday at Kohl’s, followed by activities all day on Saturday, including a social media lounge, Kids Club on-stage entertainment, before and after professional stylist makeovers, Miss Washington USA autography signing, “Taste of the Commons” cooking demonstration and food sampling and more.

According to a press release from Kohl’s, new enhancements include u pdated checkout stations, newly designed shopping carts and strollers, redesigned fitting rooms and beauty department, fitting room lounges in misses and juniors, an expanded customer service area located at the front of the store, in-store “Kohl’s Kiosks,” electronic signs in all departments and free Wi-Fi throughout the store.

The new Federal Way store, according to Kohl’s, “was constructed with the environment in mind.” Some of the environmentally friendly design elements include “careful waste management to recycle construction materials, occupancy sensor lighting for stockrooms, dressing rooms, break rooms and offices, energy management systems to control heating and cooling systems and a recycling program for cardboard boxes, hangers and packaging.”
