Fitness Evolution is slated to open this fall at the former Big Lots store, 1211 S. 320th St., next to Safeway.

• New tenant next to Safeway: Fitness Evolution is slated to open this fall at the former Big Lots store, 1211 S. 320th St., next to Safeway. The announcement was confirmed by Merlone Geier Partners, which has owned the site since 2011. Fitness Evolution has franchises in eight states and bills itself as “a premium fitness club without premium prices.” Big Lots closed on April 15, and according to a corporate spokeswoman, the store is looking for a new location in Federal Way.

• Congressman meets with small businesses: Congressman Adam Smith (D-District 9) will hold a Small Business Advisory Council Meeting at 9 a.m. May 31 at the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce. Smith welcomes small business owners to discuss current policies and initiatives in Congress that support small business development. RSVP to Karla Zuspan at (253) 838-2605 or KarlaZ@FederalWayChamber.com.

• Top Foods building: Top Food and Drug closed last month in Federal Way, leaving behind an empty building at 31515 20th Ave. S. Federal Way’s department of economic development has reached out to the building’s owners to help recruit a new business to the site, according to city spokesman Chris Carrel. Finding a tenant is a challenge because the 60,000-square-foot building was meant for a grocery store, and few grocery stores are expanding at this time, Carrel said, likening the challenge to the former Metropolitan Market building on Dash Point Road. “If the owner brings potential tenant projects through the permitting system, the city stands ready to work with them to see that the space is filled,” Carrel told The Mirror.
