Red light camera blues | Federal Way letters, April 11

With regard to all the discussion about the red light cameras, I can honestly say I have firsthand experience.

I was a big proponent of the cameras, having seen four or five cars go through an intersection on a left turn after the light turned red. It really torqued me. I mean, who are these people that are so important that they take my “green,” and hey, that is a safety issue.

But wait, that’s not all the red light cameras do. I recently received the little envelope in the mail; it said that I had ran a red light westbound on South 320th and Pacific Highway. I went to the Web site and watched the video. I had exercised a free right turn, but according to the “officer,” I had not come to a complete stop. From my review, I did stop, albeit very briefly. So, after this little “experience,” I can conclude that yes, it is about the money. Evidently they have people reviewing the tapes 24/7 looking for any possible violation.

We might want to re-think this whole scenario, and maybe we should interview the Federal Way police chief again and ask him to explain all this “safety,” especially after his little incident.
