We want to save tennis in Federal Way | Letters

Yikes! No indoor tennis in Federal Way! Some may say no big deal, but it is. LA Fitness has bought out Bally Total Fitness and will close the club on Dec. 8.

All of the workout folks, including myself, can transition over to LA Fitness, but for those of us who think of tennis as much more than a mere game — there is nowhere to play in Federal Way. Outside, one might say? Unfortunately, it’s too rainy and cold most of the year.

For the vast majority of Bally’s tennis players, the club has been a huge part of our lives for years and, for many of us, decades. It’s our exercise and social life in one big package. It’s about lasting friendships — ours and our children’s. We want to save tennis in Federal Way.

Maybe the city could step up with an expanded recreational facility? At the very least, we want to be heard and have the chance to brainstorm possible solutions.
